Bread Recipes Best Low Carb
REVIEW OF THE BEST LOW CARB BREAD RECIPES
Staple foods are always the hardest foods to give up on The Atkins and other low carbohydrate diets. Finding a suitable replacement for High Street Bread is perhaps not too difficult, however finding a low carb recipe that is delicious and will take your mind of hot carb infested loaves baking in the oven is another story. I have been investigating the plethora of low carb bread recipes online and here are the top three (in my opinion).
0 Carb French Toast (Almost!)
Ingredients:-
1 (3oz) bag of regular unflavored pork skins
4 eggs
1/2 cup heavy cream
This should be called “You wont believe it’s not French toast”
This recipe makes about 6 to 8 full size slices of bread. For thinner bread thin the mixture with a little more heavy cream (shape the mixture in the frying pan to the shape of a piece of bread with your spatula or leave it round like a pancake)
Crush the pork skins into a fine bread crumb like texture. Put them into a Ziploc bag 1/2 at a time and pound them on the kitchen counter or just mash them with your fingers. Beat eggs and heavy cream and add the crushed pork skins. Let stand about 5 mins until crushed pork skin crumbs absorb the liquid and it thickens to a gloppy texture. Then just spoon out about 4 heaping tablespoons into the hot frying pan and cook like you would pancakes cooking on each side till brown. These freeze well and also keep for several days in the fridge. Let them come cool to room temperature before making a hamburger or BLT.

Cheese Bread
Ingredients:-
1 cup soy Flour
1 tsp. Baking Powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 cup shredded Cheese (I like the mix shredded cheese)
1 slightly beaten egg
1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
Sift dry ingredients. Stir in cheese. Combine egg and cream. Pour mixture over dry ingredients and mix. Roll out dough in 8x8″ and cut into approx. 1 inch pieces. Place the pieces on an ungreased baking sheet and I sprinkle garlic powder on top and add a little bit more cheese for extra taste. (optional) Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 mins.
Low Carb Tortillas
Ingredients:-
3/4 cup Vital Wheat Gluten = 18gm
1 Cup finely ground flaxseed meal = 9gm
1/4 cup masa flour = 19 gm
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 tsp baking powder
2 Tbsp olive oil
3/4 to 1 cup warm water
Mix together all of the dry ingredients. Blend in the olive oil. Blend in the warm water 1/4 cup at a time until the dough resembles a bread like dough. I used 3/4 cups, I like my tortillas a bit on the tough side. Cover and let rest 1/2 hour.
Roll the mixture into 12, or 14 if you are adventurous, little balls. Cover and let rest 10 more minutes. Heat a fry pan on med heat. Lay a piece of wax paper on your rolling board, set a ball on the wax paper and cover with another piece, roll out as thin as you can get it. Pull the top wax paper off and take over to the pan, flip over onto the pan and pull of the other piece of wax paper. Fry until dry. Now you can use these as flour type tortillas or you can fry them up like the old corn tortillas!
You can use 1/2 cup masa and 1/2 cup vital wheat if you want which will give it a more corn tortilla feel.
You can also add garlic and chilli and cumin and opinion powder then cut up like chips and fry, these fry up nice and crisp! Please adjust carb count for additives. 0.5 gm per tsp.
Total about 3.1 grams carb per tortilla!
