What the south beach diet is and isn’t.
For anyone that has been to South Beach Miami, Florida you know that this diet sounds great. The beach is filled with good looking bodies and one would think that this diet will give you this. Sweet! They actually just have a psychological advantage on this (ie like Best Buy does for getting a good deal).
The diet was started by Dr. Arthur Agatston, who is a cardiologist from south florida. He actually developed this diet for heart patients that were very overweight (not the models you were thinking of right?)
This diet is all about bad carbs vs good ones. Processed foods is what to stay away from. They consist of eats like sugary sodas, crackers, and all those tv dinners and meal in a bag things. These eats (I know we all have had the Banquet fried chicken meal…mmm) are really bad for you.
So the master plan is too cut back on the bad carbs and eat less of the low carb foods. In therory this plan sounds good, but in all reality it can very very hard to do. If you start to look at all the munchies in a grocery stores you’ll see that the vast majority of products are a no no according to Arthur Agatston. So what does one do, change a diet and stick with it? How can we know that this is healthy without more data?
